Arrowhead Ranch ASR Wells
City of Glendale, Arizona
The City of Glendale’s Arrowhead Ranch Water Reclamation Facility (ARWRF) was originally designed for 100 percent consumptive use of the effluent within the Arrowhead Ranch development. Due to seasonal irrigation demands, there has been an excess of effluent available during the winter months. The initial phase of this project included preparation of a comprehensive water balance to evaluate the seasonal irrigation demands and available quantities of effluent. The results of this analysis indicated that aquifer recharge facilities capable of recharging 3.6 MGD would be adequate to accept the excess effluent during the winter months.
This project included design, permitting, bid services and construction related services for eight effluent recharge wells at the ARWRF and on a 10-acre site near 79th Avenue and Utopia. The scope included construction plans and specifications for four vadose zone recharge wells, four aquifer storage and recovery wells, two sodium hypochlorite disinfection facilities, on-site reclaimed water piping, and a reclaimed water irrigation pump station. Permitting was coordinated for an ADWR Facility and Storage Permit, ADEQ Aquifer Protection Permit, Maricopa Country Approval to Construct, and ADWR Recovery Well Permit. The scope also included bid and construction phase services. Finally, a Potable Water Pilot Program was developed for evaluating the recharge well’s performance characteristics with potable water.
