Kyrene Water Reclamation Facility Expansion

City of Tempe, Arizona

The City of Tempe selected Wilson Engineers to assist them with rehabilitation and expansion of the Kyrene Reclamation Facility. The expansion of the facility included upgrading the capacity from an average flow of 4.5 MGD capacity to 9 MGD capacity. The design consisted upgrades to the existing influent pump station, diversion structures, new Headworks Building, rehabilitation of existing equalization basin (with new mixers, diffusers and blowers), conversion of existing aeration basins into fine bubble aeration system, and modifications to existing clarifiers to in-channel membrane basins. A new disinfection system facility was also installed and an existing disinfection system was removed. This project consisted of modifications and upgrades to several treatment facilities and in some cases conversion to different treatment systems. The electrical and control systems at the facility were also upgraded to serve the modified treatment facilities. The existing aeration blowers, standby generators, and electrical service entrance were utilized for expanded treatment facility. The treatment facility is located in less than 5 Acres of land.
