Lake Tahoe "Shore Zone" Residence
The Problem:
The residence was a complete teardown of an existing home on the shore of Lake Tahoe. The owner wanted to maximize views of the lake that the original home, designed in the 1960s, did not consider in its design. To carry out this project within a Tahoe Regional Planning Agency “Shore Zone,” many factors had to be addressed, requiring the designer to exercise increased sensitivity.
The Solution:
The Shore Zone of Lake Tahoe is a regionally important resource. Therefore, the residential design was carefully focused on the home as viewed from the lake and addressed issues such as footprint size, height, total façade area, glass reflectivity, colors, materials, and the visual vulnerability of the shoreline.
The Results:
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency approved the project, and the owners now enjoy their magnificent views of Lake Tahoe.
