Prairie Residential Design

The Problem:

Tasked with designing a “Prairie Style” home inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright in the gated community of Carson Country Estates, the owner requested that the project complement the natural topography with minimal disturbance and excavation, while taking advantage of the unobstructed views of Job’s Peak.

The Solution:

The design envisioned a spacious single-story home with a detached garage connected by a breezeway. The plan steps multiple times to follow the natural topography and minimize land disturbance and excavation, featuring tall transom windows in every south-facing room to maximize unobstructed views of Job’s Peak.

The Results:

This home was built with three wings, featuring four bedrooms and three bathrooms within a 3,200-square-foot layout. Multiple levels reduced the need for extensive grading because changes in the foundation acted as internal retaining walls, eliminating the need for large, visually intrusive exterior retaining walls.
