Pioneering Projects for a Sustainable Future
City of South Lake Tahoe, CA
Harrison Avenue Streetscape Project

The Problem:
Harrison Avenue is a small commercial corridor running parallel to U.S. Highway 50 in the City of South Lake Tahoe. The site faced challenges related to providing sufficient parking and access for existing businesses along this corridor, as well as issues with drainage, erosion, snow removal, and maintenance.
The Solution:
The project involved initial surveying and the design of storm drain improvements, including temporary and permanent Best Management Practices (BMPs) for stormwater collection, treatment, and infiltration within the project area. Civil design plans were prepared along with specifications and cost estimates. An environmental analysis covering CEQA, NEPA, and TRPA was conducted, with coordination and permitting through regional, state, and federal regulatory agencies. The project also included assisting with establishing an assessment district, as well as preparing contractor bid documents and providing support for all work within the public rights-of-way.
The Results:
The team led a successful public outreach effort, coordinating meetings with stakeholders, property owners, business owners, agencies, City departments, and advisory groups to ensure a transparent process for all interested parties and to understand how their input would influence the outcomes.
