Edgewood Water Company Utility Mapping Project

Edgewood Water Company Utility Mapping Project

The Problem:

Edgewood Water Company is a private utility that supplies community water services to casino properties and golf facilities located in Stateline, Nevada. These facilities are situated within the Tahoe Basin, making the water company subject to environmental regulations governed by the Bi-State Compact between California and Nevada, which is overseen by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. The water company’s facilities have been in operation for many years, and like other utilities, their exact locations are not always precise, which can complicate winter repairs in this mountainous environment.

The Solution:

The surveyors were tasked with completing a utility mapping project of the existing water infrastructure, including storage tanks and the water treatment plant, for the community’s water system. Our survey crew worked closely with the utility manager to ensure the most accurate locations for water lines, water valves, and fire hydrants were obtained. The survey crew utilized both a GPS data collection receiver and conventional surveying techniques to collect field data.

The Results:

All field data was incorporated, along with existing aerial photography and drawings, into an electronic mapping database in AutoCAD. Where electronic files did not exist, hard copy record drawings were digitized for inclusion into the database. A hard copy report of the water infrastructure system map was also delivered for Edgewood Water Company’s use and display.
